Upcycle Your Candle Jar!

The time will come when your UPPERCASE CANDLE reaches the end of its wick — and then what? Can you clean the wax out of a candle jar and reuse it? Absolutely! Here are a few tricks for turning your typographic soy candle jar into a perfect rocks glass.

1. Remove the label

Our labels are printed on a thick vinyl which means it will peel off cleanly. No messy, gluey paper to scrape off the jar.

2. Scoop out as much wax as you can

Once the candle goes out and the wax has hardened for the last time, take a butterknife or a spoon and scrape out any big chunks of wax. Our soy wax is 100% natural, nontoxic and biodegradable so you can safely toss this into your compost or trash.

3. Pour boiling water into the jar

On a heat resistant surface, pour hot water into the jar. The heat will melt all the excess beads of wax and they will harden again as the water cools. The cooled and hardened beads often float to the surface where you can skim them off with a spoon. Toss any wax into your compost or trash. Do not put down the drain! 

4. Pop out the wick

If it hasn’t completely loosened with the hot water, you may need to fiddle with the base of the wick a bit to get it to pop off. Sometimes we use nail polish remover if it's being extra stubborn.

5. Wipe out the jar

Some wax will likely still coat the insides of the jar. Just take a paper towel and run it along the inside of the glass. If you can’t seem to get a clean wipe, try adding a bit of dish soap — soy wax is essentially a natural saturated fat, and the soap should help break it down. 

6. Give it a good wash

Once free of wax, give the vessel a good wash in the sink or dishwasher, and you’re good to go!

7. Pour a drink & reorder a new candle!

The jars make the perfect rocks glass, so whatever your preference — bourbon (like Matt) or club soda (like David) — pour yourself a nice refreshment. You earned it. Then kick your feet up and come back to order your next font-themed candle here at UPPERCASE!
